Though my career began in print working for a small design firm in the Milwaukee suburbs, I quickly found a passion for web design and email marketing while working for one of the nation’s largest magazine publishers.
Most recently I acted as creative director for a medium-sized electronics manufacturer where my varied responsibilities covered every aspect of re-branding and marketing content creation in both print and online.
I have extensive experience in both graphic design and web & digital design.
My many tasks include website design and maintenance, logo & branding design, literature design, photography, email marketing, and copy writing.
Within the past several months I’ve launched websites for a school district, two non-profits, a commercial real estate company, two online sellers AND produced several successful print & email campaigns.

What a great company and project. The site was designed not only for how big the company is today, but also how big they plan to be in the years to come, with new studios being added monthly. Although on the surface this is a simple Wordpress multisite website, there is a lot more going on under the hood that isn't seen. This site simultaneously operates as a marketing and booking tool for customers AND a event/booking system for the studios owners.
Having grown up in the Lake Country area I was thrilled to join the Hartland Chamber of Commerce upon forming Matt Gerber Designs. I was even more excited when they hired me to redesign their website from the ground up. In addition to the usual information about the chamber that was needed on their site, they also required integration with a company called Chamber Master which handles all of the member and event information. The final result is a stunning combination of form and functionality and suits the Chamber perfectly.
This was an exciting project. The Lavender Leash is a new subscription box service that targets affluent dog owners. Though the website utilizes a content management service that specializes in subscription services, the website design is entirely custom.
Clyde Caldwell is an incredible fantasy illustrator—most famous for his work done for TSR and various fantasy authors. He and his wife Sharon approached me in early 2016 to redesign his online portfolio and store. The end-result perfectly marries his brilliant artistry with the latest in eCommerce website design best-practices for a website that will last for years to come!
Insight Physical Therapy was an exciting project as it also included a sister site located at PTASeminars.com. Both websites, though separate entities needed to share a similar branding and overall voice.
Kirchoff Group is an amazing local realtor. They really stand out in a crowded field with their amazing knowledge of they area and their passion for local business. They really wanted a site that was different than the average realtor site—and what they ended up with was just that. We used a Wordpress template with quite a few added features to really create something stunning.
Lake Country Racquet & Athletic Club has been around for decades—offering a wide array of services to their clients. They came to me with a desire for a full site redesign that would simultaneously bring their marketing up to date and allow for simply in-house updates without the need for a long-term maintenance plan. Naturally a Wordpress website was the ultimate solution.
PTA Seminars is the sister site and company to Insight Physical Therapy. It shares a similar design and voice, though it's function is QUITE different. Where Insight PT is purely a marketing site, PTA Seminars is a vehicle for online registration. Through a series of plugins, this Wordpress website design looks great and works seamlessly.
This branding was created for an all-new, incredible company that works with newly diagnosed cancer patients to help them understand the changes that are occurring within their body and hair.
This Multisite was a very large project for us that consisted of a main district site and satellite sites for 6 of the district's schools. In addition to the information that needed to be served up in an organized fashion, special attention needed to be paid to the updatability of the content by several different users.
The series of sites also needed to share a single database so that items such as the news & events and the calendar can be reflected across all of the sites. This allows for maximum usability by district parents.
Wish I Were There Travel is a local travel agency that specializes in destination weddings and group travel. They were really looking for something that separated them from the pack—something bright and energetic. The end result take full advantage of their strengths and connections within the industry to give all of their clients any information they need to book their dream vacations!
This branding for AMD labels plays off of the printing web that is involved in many of the most common services they handle in house.
The Kiwanis Club of Greater Hartland was in desperate need of a website redesign when I jumped on board. This new Wordpress website is simple, clean and informative—it markets the core values of the organization and advertises the clubs upcoming events.
Although the Property Advisor website design centers around the company's real estate listings on it's face, it really has another feature that nearly supersedes it in importance. The company owner wanted built-in functionality that would allow his clients to log in to view and upload real estate documents. Through various customized plug-ins, the end result was exactly what the client wanted.
Grateful Hearts Giving is an amazing organization! I was happy to donate this web design to their cause. In addition to a clean, straight-forward aesthetics, this web project required a donation component that was seamlessly added. This was The Family Handyman's first foray into the mobile app space and they wanted a simple, sleek, informative and responsive page that would represent the quality of the app. With the launch of this landing page, the app's success was astounding—almost tripling every best case scenario they put together.
Kar-Tech, Inc. recently created a sub-brand of products that is going to be sold as a commodity item to OEMs and electronics manufacturers. This all-new eCommerce website is designed to present all of the switches' incredible benefits in a quick, easy-to-digest snapshot.
This was a complete redesign of Kar-Tech's website to incorporate their new branding and an expanded store. With the expansion from around a dozen products in Kar-Tech's online store to more than 250, I decided to build the site on the Magento Community CMS. With the majority of the site being a marketing site, and the CMS for Magento focusing on eCommerce it took a considerable amount of customization to build the site as you see it today.
The owner of Événement Planning approached me in late 2013 for a new website, wanting something modern and stylish—something that really showcased how the beauty of her events. The site is built with Wordpress utilizing the Avada theme, which allows événement the simple functionality of updating their own gallery photos, content and blog posts.
Gerber's Nursery is a family-owned and operated wholesale perennial nursery. This website is built with Wordpress which allows the Gerber family the ability to change their own plant lists seasonally with ease. It is a very simple website that houses all of the most critical information for prospective buyers.
Started in February of 2014, Kar-Tech, Inc. has a bi-weekly email newsletter/email marketing campaign that I write, design, build and mail to a client list of roughly 3,000 recipients. The emails have been a monumental success in building company awareness, spreading the Kar-Tech brand to new markets and driving traffic to new eCommerce website.
While working at Reader's Digest Association, one of my varied responsibilities as a digital designer was to design and build marketing emails for Taste of Home magazine. This is one of dozens that was mailed to a subscriber list of several million.
Shop Taste of Home is the eCommerce site tied to Taste of Home. Their products range from cookbooks to eBooks to kitchen utensils. Several times a week, an email is mailed to several million subscribers advertising new products and sales. This email is representative of the dozens of email designs that I planned and built while working at Reader's Digest using mobile-friendly best practices.
This Taste of Home microsite, which I designed and coded with HTML and CSS best practices, serves as a source of information for consumers considering a subscription to the Taste of Home magazine. Special attention was paid to merging the style's of the Taste of Home magazine with their digital style-guide used on TasteofHome.com.
Several times a year, The Family Handyman hosts a sweepstakes. Each contest required its own creative with landing pages, digital ads and marketing emails. This is one of several that I designed and built and represents of the first projects at Reader's Digest that utilizes responsive code to ensure best viewing and conversion regardless of device.
The Family Handyman magazine has a bi-annual $5 sale that required different creative to broadcast across multiple mediums. This landing page represents one of several that I designed and built for The Family Handyman brand keeping in my the magazine's branding with introducing seasonal elements.
One of Kar-Tech's biggest assets is their wide variety of extraordinary products. This new literature book that I designed showcases them in the manner that they truly deserve. Not only is it visually arresting, but it organizes all of the electronics technical details in an easy to read manner.
The Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha, Wisconsin approached us looking for all-new branding for their Owned Outdoor Cat program. We designed and supplied them with a new name, branding, stationary, literature and style guide which the implemented across several mediums from advertisements to billboards. I was approached to brand my graduating class' portfolio review. I took the opportunity to celebrate one of my favorite graphic designers—the magnificent Saul Bass. I put this design together, pulling inspiration from great posters like the one created for Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo.

This is the accumulation of several weeks of Lynda.com tutorials, blood, sweat and tears—but now I can't wait to dive head first into another animation project!
